Daily Exercise

A fun game of Seaweed to get our endorphins going!

Student of the Week- Morgan

Check out our fabulous new Awapuni shields. Room 4 were the lucky ones to be awarded the Senior Shield first and the lovely Morgan was our worthy recipient this afternoon. Morgan always has a positive attitude towards her learning and always strives to complete quality work. Well Done Morgan, I am so proud of your efforts.

Buddy Reading with Room 13

Both classes worked really well together. Mrs Hart and I look forward to the learning relationships that will develop over time in supporting our younger pupils of Awapuni School.

Thursday 13th February

We had a fantastic day in Room 4 today. We completed some very clever writing pieces with Mrs Torrie and Pat taught us all about the "HELP" survival skill during swimming. We spent time with our Buddy Reading class (Room 13) who were very well mannered and appreciative hosts. Thankyou Mrs Hart and all your wonderful Year 1 students!  This afternoon we took part in a powhiri to welcome the Year 4's to the senior syndicate as well as the new teachers (myself included) An action packed day full of very special moments- Miss Beattie
Room 4 managed to hold the HELP survival skill for three minutes.

Week Two Reminders

Mr Gilmore is having his first day in Room 4 today. I'm excited to hear all the fabulous stories tomorrow!

A few reminders:

  • Please remember that each student needs to bring a packet of biscuits to the office for our powhiri tomorrow.
  • Permission slips for Adventure Week also need to come into school ASAP. We are looking forward to an action-packed week so lots of organizing to be done!
  • Swimming togs and sun-hats need to be packed each day. We need to make the most of these beautiful sunny days!
  • Our first trip to the HB Williams Library is scheduled for next Thursday. Please make sure your child has given their library card to Miss Beattie prior for safe keeping:)
Have a wonderful day all!

Newsletter: Term One, Week One

Kia ora and Welcome to Room 4, 2014.

I hope that you have all enjoyed a relaxing summer holiday and have returned to school feeling refreshed! My name is Anna Beattie and I am your child’s classroom teacher for the new and exciting year ahead. Having recently joined the team at Awapuni, I look forward to being amongst a thriving learning community and developing learning relationships with the students of Room 4.

I have completed five years of tertiary education, spending four at Otago University and one year studying online in my hometown of Gisborne.  Throughout this time I have dedicated many hours instructing dance which confirmed my love for teaching and working with children.
Cooperative learning is our focus for the first couple of weeks. This means the students will be involved in a lot of group work and learning how to interact with each other. It is also a great way for myself and the students to get to know each other.

I look forward to meeting you all so please come into Room 4 and introduce yourselves or get in touch through the details above. I see great value in regular communication with parents/ caregivers in order to create the best learning environment for your child and transition into a new school year.
From next week, our classroom newsletter will be emailed to you. Please ensure we have your current email address on our database or be in touch with any changes.

Yours in Teaching,

Anna Beattie.
